No clinical trials have tested rhodiola for peri/menopause symptoms. What exists is an idea.
In 2016, two researchers published a paper in Phytomedicine proposing that Rhodiola rosea be investigated as a natural selective estrogen receptor modulator, or SERM: a compound that interacts with estrogen receptors differently in different tissues. They argued rhodiola compounds may bind estrogen receptors and influence related cell signaling, which could make it relevant to menopausal fatigue, cognition, bone, and heart health. Read that carefully. The evidence behind it is preclinical: laboratory and mechanistic work, plus a call for future research. Proposing a mechanism is how science starts, not how it concludes. Until controlled trials test rhodiola in peri/menopausal women, the estrogen-receptor story stays unproven.
